Artwork Guidelines – Rollfly Custom Inline Speed Skating Apparel
1. Overview
Proper artwork preparation ensures your custom inline speed skating suits are produced accurately and efficiently. This guide covers file formats, color specifications, design placement and common pitfalls to help you submit print-ready artwork for your team or brand project.
Following these guidelines helps avoid delays, misprints and additional revision rounds. If you have questions about your specific project, contact Rollfly before submitting files.
2. Accepted File Formats
Preferred Formats
Format Notes
Adobe Illustrator (.ai)Convert all text to outlines
Encapsulated PostScript (.eps)Ensure all elements are embedded
Portable Document Format (.pdf)High resolution, press-quality settings
Acceptable Formats
Format Notes
Photoshop (.psd)Minimum 300 dpi at actual print size, flattened layers preferred
PNG (.png)Minimum 300 dpi, transparent background preferred
JPEG (.jpg)Minimum 300 dpi, no compression artifacts
Not Recommended
- Word (.doc / .docx) — not a print-ready format
- PowerPoint (.ppt / .pptx) — may cause color and resolution issues
- Low-resolution web images (72 dpi) — will appear pixelated when printed
- Screenshots — insufficient resolution for production
File Size Guidelines
- Maximum file size for email submission: 20 MB
- Larger files: share via WeTransfer, Google Drive or Dropbox link
- Multiple files: compress into a single ZIP folder
3. Color Specifications
Color Mode
All artwork must be submitted in CMYK color mode. RGB files will be converted, which may cause color shifts.
Specifying Colors
Method Best Practice
Pantone (PMS)Provide PMS numbers for spot color matching
HEX codesAcceptable for reference; final conversion to CMYK
CMYK valuesMost accurate for print reproduction
Reference samplesPhysical swatches or previously printed garments
Important Notes on Color
- Screen colors (RGB) always appear brighter than printed colors (CMYK)
- Fluorescent and metallic colors may not reproduce accurately with sublimation
- Dark base fabrics affect the final appearance of lighter colors
- Color matching tolerances should be confirmed before production
Gradient & Effects
- Gradients are reproducible with digital sublimation
- Avoid extremely fine gradient transitions that may band in print
- Drop shadows, glows and transparency effects must be flattened before submission
4. Design Layout & Placement
Standard Placement Areas
Element Typical Location
Team logo / crestChest (left or center), back upper, or sleeve
Athlete nameUpper back (between shoulders) or back hem
Race numberBack (centered), chest (optional)
Sponsor logoChest, back, sleeve or leg
Club nameBack upper or chest
Stripe / panel graphicsSleeves, sides, legs — follow garment panel seams
Safe Zones
- Keep critical design elements at least 2 cm (0.8 inches) away from seams
- Allow clearance around zippers and closures
- Text and numbers should not cross seams or fold lines
Design That Wraps Around the Body
- Designs that wrap from front to back must account for the side panel seam
- Continuous horizontal lines across the torso may shift at the side seam
- Ask Rollfly for a template or mockup service if unsure about placement
Mirroring & Orientation
- Left and right sleeves are separate panels — artwork may need mirroring
- Confirm whether the design appears on one side or both sides of the garment
5. Text & Typography
Font Requirements
- Convert all text to outlines / paths in vector files
- If fonts cannot be outlined, provide the font file separately
- Avoid script or highly decorative fonts — they may become illegible at small sizes
Minimum Text Size
Application Minimum Size
Names (back)3 cm (1.2 inches) tall
Numbers (back)8 cm (3.1 inches) tall
Sponsor logosLegible at 2 cm (0.8 inches) tall
Fine print / tagsDiscuss with Rollfly
Text Legibility
- Ensure sufficient contrast between text color and background
- Avoid placing text over busy patterns or gradients
- White text on light colors may be difficult to read
- Outline / stroke on text can improve legibility but must be wide enough to print clearly
6. Common Mistakes to Avoid
File Issues
Mistake Solution
Submitting RGB instead of CMYK
》Convert to CMYK before sending
Low resolution (72 dpi)
》Export at minimum 300 dpi at actual size
Missing fonts
》Convert text to outlines
Linked images not embedded
》Embed or rasterize all linked files
Wrong file format
》Use .ai, .eps or .pdf
Design Issues
Mistake Solution
Text too close to seams
》Maintain 2 cm safe zone
Design crossing zipper area
》Relocate or adjust layout
Insufficient contrast
》Lighten background or darken text
Overly complex gradients
》Simplify or increase gradient step size
Forgetting sleeve mirroring
》Check left/right orientation
Color Issues
Mistake Solution
Using RGB colors
》Convert to CMYK
Expecting screen brightness on fabric
》Understand CMYK limitations
No color reference provided
》Supply PMS, HEX or physical sample
